I am standing on the F1 track and that tall building across the Bay is the Marina Bay Sands. Is that a giant snake resting on the roof? If you want to know more about the MBS, read on. Otherwise, skip to my next picture :)
Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort in Marina South in central Singapore. It was developed by one of the world's biggest gaming companies, Las Vegas Sands. Marina Bay Sands is the world's second-costliest casino, after MGM Mirage's CityCenter in Las Vegas. It is expected to generate at least $1 billion in annual profit.
The total cost of the development is placed at S$8.0 billion. Las Vegas Sands named the project as one of the world's most challenging construction projects and certainly the most expensive stand-alone integrated resort property ever built. In addition to the casino, other key components are three hotel towers with 2,500 rooms and suites, a 200,000-square-foot (19,000 m2) Art-Science museum and a convention centre with 1,200,000 square feet (111,000 m2) of space, capable of accommodating up to 45,000 people. The resort, inspired by card decks, was designed by Moshe Safdie.
Marina Bay Sands features three 55-storey hotel towers which are connected by a 1 hectare sky terrace on the roof, named Sands SkyPark. In front of the three towers include a Theatre Block, a Convention and Exhibition Facilities Block, as well as the Casino Block, which have up to 1000 gaming tables and 1400 slot machines. The Art-Science Museum is constructed next to the three blocks and has the shape of a lotus. Its roof will be retractable, providing a waterfall through the roof of collected rainwater when closed in the day and treating audiences to laser shows when opened at night.
The SkyPark will be home to the world's longest elevated swimming pool, with a 475-foot vanishing edge. The pools are made up of 400,000 pounds of stainless steel and can hold 380,000 gallons (1440 cubic metres) of water. The pools are elevated 975 feet above the ground.

The Helix Bridge
A pair of parallel helices intertwined about a common axis; "the shape of the DNA molecule is a double helix", whatever. Anyway, that is what the recently completed Helix Bridge (previously known as the Double Helix Bridge) looks like.
All those twisting and turning of the steel frames are making me dizzy.

It is almost 6 pm and I am famished. My parents decided to try out the Shabu Shabu Buffet at Suki-Ya, Marina Square. I like Japanese food :)
Shabu Shabu is the Japanese variant of steamboat where thinly sliced meats and vegetables are boiled in savory soup and served with dipping sauces.
Originated in the 13th century, Mongol troops would gather around large pots and cook together. Thinly sliced meats were used for its short cooking time, which allowed the Mongolian army to eat quickly and also conserve its limited food supply.
Shabu Shabu was officially introduced in Japan in the 20th century, with the first Shabu Shabu restaurant opening in Osaka. Since then, it has spread to Asia, and most recently to Europe as well as the US.
I think the food is ok but the variety is too little. The ice cream is totally tasteless. Sugar free ice cream? Yuk!

Something is happening at the Esplanade Park. As we approach the park from The Esplanade, we could see pots of fire lining up on both sides of the pavement. OMG! The entire park is on fire!
Naked flames everywhere, towering sculptures of metal with flaming clay pots, patterns of flame suspended in mid-air around the trees, paths lined with metal pots of flame and there's some kind of eerie musical soundscape in the air. It's really a sight to behold.
