A Day At Universal Studios Singapore

Yesterday, I went to Universal Studios Singapore with my parents. We arrived at Resort World Sentosa about an hour before the park's opening time. We had our breakfast at The Forum.

At about 9.45am, we headed to Universal Studios Singapore. My parents were expecting a big crowd since we were in the middle of the school March holiday. But to our surprise, the park was not as crowded as what my parents had anticipated.

I want one of those giant lollipops!

The famous Universal Globe outside the park's entrance.

Guess what I was doing?

Hollywood

After we went pass the gates, we were immediately greeted by beautiful architecture and palm trees. My dad said the place was like Hollywood in the 1960's or 70's. The main street, Hollywood Boulevard, is flanked by magnificent olden days architecture. There is a broadway theatre, a replica of the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame and several shops and restaurants.

Help! The Frankenstein monster caught me!

I found the Universal Studios Store! Let's get some tees and souvenirs!

Ever thought of winning an Oscar? Now you can buy as many as you want =)

Hmm... According to the map, Universal Studios Singapore has seven movie themed zones surrounding a lagoon. Where shall we start? Let me see... Ok, we shall go clockwise around the lagoon, starting from Hollywood followed by Madagascar, Far Far Away, The Lost World, Ancient Egypt, Sci-Fi City, New York and back to Holloywood again. Follow me!

Madagascar

Something is hanging from the tree branch...

It's a skeleton! Gross! I wonder how long has it been up there?

There is a plane on the tree. That poor skeleton, erm.. that poor pilot must have jumped off the plane before it crashed into the giant tree.

Huh? What is a fooga? Oh nevermind, let's find Marty and Gloria.

Gloria, Alex and the irritating King Julien dancing with The Penguins.

A short video of the Madagascar Dance.

King Julien's Beach Party-Go-Round is a carousel with all kinds of characters from Madagascar on the ride.

Serving Japanese quick bites like yakitori and rice bowls :P

This is the cargo ship the Penguins escaped on. The structure is really tall and hugh. It's like a real ship.

Far Far Away

Is that Lord Farquaad's castle? I think it is. We are near Far Far Away.
Huh..near far far away? That didn't sound right =)

Shrek was not at home =(

This is my favourite attraction, Shrek 4D adventure. It was funny and scary.
Besides the cool 3D effects, you get rocking seats, splashes of water,
whistling wind and tickling spiders! I like it so much that I watched this 4D show five times!

Shhh... We are now inside Lord Farquaad's castle.

Each time after the 4D show, we were conveniently 'ushered' by the crowd into
Fairy Godmother's Potion Shop. And, I too conveniently bought a princess hairband, a few rings and a set of cutie pens =)

This is the Magic Potion Spin. It is actually a small ferris wheel ride for little children
in Fairy Godmother's Potion Shop.

The Lost World

Erm... I think we are lost. Oh wait, everyone is lost in The Lost World =)

I wanted to wrestle the dinosaur but my mom stopped me.

The first of the two signature rides in Universal Studios Singapore. You will be drenched at the end of the ride unless you put on a hooded raincoat.

We didn't know that the Canopy Flyer was a suspended 4-seater roller coaster ride. My dad asked the staff and she assured us that the ride is mild without any sudden drop or high speed turn. We got tricked. Though the ride started out gentlly, it picked up speed fast and ended with a high speed acute turn near the end. I was screaming all the way and mommy said her eyes were shut all the time. I wanted to go for a second round but mommy said, "No way!"

They were enjoying their ride and I was enjoying my ice-cream.

Ancient Egypt

Will there be mummies in Ancient Egypt? Let's find out.

The golden mask of King Tutankhamun.

Is that the entrance to King Tutankhamun's tomb?

These two magnificient Anubis statues guard the entrance to King
Tutankhamun's tomb. Anubis is the Greek name for jackel-headed God.
The statues are humongous and look intimidating.
I was a little scared to go near them.

Hello... Huh? Who is behind me ?!!

On the desert jeep ride. Nothing much to see. The jeep moved by itself and
I had no control of it. BORING!

Driving through an abandoned Egyptian excavation site, looking for treasures.

I am thirtsy. Blueberry or fruit punch?

Sci-Fi City

Alien invasion! Look at those giant tentacles behind my kakak!

The other signature ride, Battlestar Galactica, the world's tallest duelling roller coasters. Erm... No thanks.

Accelerator - Want to go for a spin?

Dizzy but fun =)

New York

This is the New York Public Library. A cool replica of the real thing, complete with the two stone lions outside the building. Hey! Where are the stone lions?

Look! I am standing on Broadway. It's SHOWTIME!

Lights, Camera, Action! Getting ready to witness the visual and sound effects for a stage 5 hurricane in New York City. My parents said the effects were mediocre compared to the subway earthquake effects in Universal Studios Hollywood, California.

Window shopping.

Look who I found on 5th Ave Broadway... Marilyn Monroe lookalike!

Marilyn Monroe was a very popular American singer, actress and model in the 1950's.

Like my party hat? Can you count the number of candles on it?

Hollywood

It was almost 1pm and I was famished. My parents like Chinese food so we decided to have our lunch at Hollywood China Bistro.

Yummy!

The Lost World - WaterWorld

After our scrumptious meal, we made a second tour around the Studios and this time round, we were in time for the spectacular WaterWorld show. There were lots of high risk stunts and loud explosions. Quite scary.

Hollywood - Pantages Hollywood Theater

The cast from the Universal Monsters rock-n-roll musical, "Monster Rock!".

New York

Betty Boop and me!

Betty Boop is an animated cartoon character in the 1930's. She has also been featured in comic strips. She was one of the best known cartoon characters in the world, especially in America and she remains popular today.

Far Far Away

Princess Fiona and the smelly, I mean, funny ogre, Shrek!

New York

Hollywood

Finally I found Po!

After the photo snapping session with kung fu panda, my parents decided to conclude the day at Universal Studios Singapore. It was only 5pm and the Studios will close at 9 pm that day. But we were all tired. The Park had nothing much to play but lots to see. I really had a wonderful time.
